Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. 7 times thank you for your vote, dear readers! We are proud and delighted to have won the Bilanz Telekom Rating in the category "Best Internet Provider for Private Customers" for the seventh time in a row. The seventh award is something special for us, but also an obligation: we work every day to remain the best Internet provider, because the competition is chasing us closely. Somewhat surprisingly, we also received the Bilanz gold medal for ‘Best TV Provider’. We're still a bit baffled, as our TV7 doesn't actually offer much more than real-time live TV without a replay or recording function. The blog post from June ‘When the neighbours cheer earlier: football TV hell’ https://blog.init7.net/en/when-the-neighbours-cheer-earlier-football-tv-hell/ seems to be an explanatory piece on Swiss TV policy. We suspect that it has brought us a few votes. Multicast and Full HD do require a bit of DIY - i.e. manual configuration - but it's part of our belief in making things possible and enabling our customers to utilise current technologies profitably. Disruption - that was our credo in 2014 when we shook up the provider market for private customers withFiber7 over 10 years ago https://blog.init7.net/en/ten-years-of-fiber7/. No more lame bandwidth, just full blast: gigabit up, gigabit down and all at an affordable price. Now we are repeating the disruption for business and wholesale customers: Ethernet7 https://www.init7.net/en/offer/ethernet7-carrier-ethernet-service-ces/ is the name of our new Carrier Ethernet Service with an unprecedented bandwidth/price ratio. Ethernet7 isn't actually that new, as the service has been in use with partners, customers and payloads since November 2023. We have deliberately kept the product under the radar for the time being so as not to wake up incumbents too early and give them the chance to steal a march on our innovation. In fact, Carrier Ethernet (CES) has been available to buy since the noughties. But for almost two decades there was hardly any competition in this market segment, and so the former monopolist still charges around CHF 310 per month for a 10 Mbit/s (megabit!) connection. Ethernet7 works exactly like CES from the customer's point of view, but costs a disruptive 111 francs per month and also uses a more modern technology: EVPN-VXLAN. Nota bene: Our Ethernet7 would not be possible if the fibre optic dispute https://blog.init7.net/en/die-glasfaserstreit-geschichte/ had not ended in our favour. According to the Competition Commission COMCO, an openly accessible FTTH infrastructure for all providers is essential for technology competition. It is relevant for countless SMEs in Switzerland whether they pay three times as much per month for a paltry 10 megabits or whether they get 10 gigabits at lightning speed for a third of the price. After 5 years, the additional costs amount to around CHF 13,000. Ethernet7 is therefore virtually the real proof of COMCO's thesis. With this in mind, we wish you an innovative autumn.

The blog post from June ‘When the neighbours cheer earlier: football TV hell’ seems to be an explanatory piece on Swiss TV policy. We suspect that it has brought us a few votes. Bilanz Telekom Ranking

Thanks to your support, we have done it again: we won the gold medal in the BILANZ Telekom rating for the seventh time in a row! This would not have been possible without our loyal private customers. We are proud to have been honoured once again as ‘Best Provider’.

Launch Ethernet7

Faster and cheaper: We have expanded our portfolio with Ethernet7, a new Carrier Ethernet Service on fibre that is tailored to the needs of companies and organisations with multiple locations as well as resellers.

FCW Matronat - Nr. 7 Elena van Niekerk

From this summer, we have the honour of sponsoring FCW player Elena van Niekerk with the number 7.

We wish her every success and look forward to many goals!

Overbooking – how providers divide up the bandwidth

Most providers advertise their Internet subscriptions with the maximum available bandwidth - in addition to the price. These two parameters are easy for customers to compare and are often the decisive criterion when making a choice.

But overbooking is crucial for the user experience. In our new blog post, we explain how providers can save money by tightening the quality screw.

YAGR - Yet Another Global Reboot

YAGR: This is what network engineers derisively call the effort involved when a serious security vulnerability is found in widespread software that makes it necessary to install a firmware update on all devices in no time at all. New firmware requires thousands, if not millions, of systems such as servers, routers and switches to be rebooted - a YAGR: Yet another global reboot.

In fact, network components, like any machine, are not completely maintenance-free. Our Fiber7 switches will therefore soon be getting a little maintenance. This is planned for all nights of calendar week 41, i.e. from 7 to 11 October 2024. Expect several interruptions during these nights - we will be rolling out new firmware on almost 1,000 devices - automatically, of course.
