Bonjour, [Vorname] [Nachname]
Dear reader,
I am writing these lines in Krakow, Poland. This is where the bi-annual RIPE conference is currently taking place. RIPE is our Internet community which, in addition to many technical discussions, also deals with Internet administration in Europe. In other words, the administration of IP addresses and other necessary resources. Bottom-up governance is important in the RIPE community. We discuss new regulations until there is consensus. This is how it has worked for almost 35 years, in the interests of all Internet citizens, i.e. you.
RIPE as a community has had an important influence on us as an Internet provider from the very beginning, because over time the understanding of how the "Internet must be without being broken" has matured. This conviction was the measure of all things when we launched the first "real" gigabit fiber-optic service in Switzerland 10 years ago: Fiber7 celebrates its 10th birthday today, on 22 May 2024. Read our latest blog entry to find out how this came about and why I was labelled "Mr. Fiber" back then.
However, "Internet without being broken" not only requires liberal governance, technical equipment and expertise, but also people who enjoy working with us and carry the Init7 vision forward. We can only achieve this if the working environment is set up in such a way, that the work-life balance is guaranteed. We also attach great importance to diverse teams because they achieve better results. Diversity not only in terms of gender, but also in terms of origin: Farsi, French and Finnish are just three of the many native languages spoken by our colleagues.
And by the way. There was also the #fiberglass dispute. A few weeks ago, the Competition Commission (finally) made its decision. It's a 100% victory for a monopoly-free Internet in Switzerland. Mission accomplished. ✅
I hope you find it interesting and enjoyable to read.
